TRANSKIDS-CARE

Somatomedical Treatment of Gender Dysphoria during Adolescence: Improvement of Care based on Evidence from Epidemiological and Health Economic Analyses

TRANSKIDS-CARE is the first analysis of differences in treatment (e.g. prescription of hormones, surgery, psychotherapy) of patients with gender dysphoria (GD) (the mismatch of gender identity) in adolescence in Germany. The aim of the project is on the one hand to examine the quantity of treatments of GD, on the other hand to examine the quality of GD treatment. Included are those patients that fall into the age range 4-18 years at first diagnosis (Cohort A) and those which are in the age range 19-30 years old at first diagnosis (Cohort B). The project is in cooperation with the UKE in Hamburg and two insurance companies which supply the data. Two types of data are analysed: A dataset by Techniker Krankenkasse and BARMER of the years 2017-2020 and data in BARMER data warehouse of the years 2011-2020.

The project can be subdivided into four parts (TP 1-4): Data preparation, epidemiological analyses, health economic analyses, clinical demand analyses. Part 1 (data preparation) and part 2 (epidemiological analyses) are (among others) elaborated by the Institute of Epidemiology and Social Medicine Münster.
