RESOLVE-PCC

The mental health dimension associated with long-/post-COVID syndrome: predictors and mediators

As a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, some of those affected experience health problems that can last for weeks or months after the acute infection (long-/post-COVID). There are a variety of different symptoms that occur individually or in combination. The causes and effective treatment and care concepts have not yet been sufficiently researched. In addition, the diagnosis of long-/post-COVID is challenging, as it is often difficult to differentiate it from other diseases.

The RESOLVE-PCC network aims to analyse symptoms and risk factors associated with previous SARS-CoV-2 infections using two large cohort studies. Particular emphasis is placed on genetic markers, immunity-related data and data on mental health. Health insurance data will also be included. The aim is to define subgroups of the syndrome and decipher disease mechanisms. Risk factors for the severity and persistence of the syndrome will be determined. Ultimately, this should enable approaches to personalised treatment.

Our subproject investigates mental health in the context of long-/post-COVID and aims to identify predictors and the role of mental health as a causal factor and mediator for long-/post-COVID symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection. The scientific objectives are 1) to identify predictors of mental health symptoms and 2) to investigate mental health as a causal factor for long-/post-COVID symptoms. The project utilises and manages NAKO data available for research purposes from the start date, two interim surveys and partly from the first active follow-up.
