Environmental factors and the spread of Panton-Valentine Leukocidin-positive Staphylococcus aureus in sub-Saharan Africa

The prevalence of Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-positive Staphylococcus aureus is particularly high in sub-Saharan Africa. Underlying mechanisms are unknown but might include determinant of the host, the pathogen or the environment. The objective of this project is to investigate if environmental factors are associated with the dispersal of PVL-positive S. aureus in sub-Saharan Africa.
